Stop Smoking/Vaping

Hypnotherapist in Edinburgh Stop Smoking Treatment

One of the more widely known uses of hypnosis is helping people to stop smoking. In this, I have adapted with the times, and made my treatments compatible for vape users as well, combining existing, long-proven techniques with modern science and a holistic approach to provide you with the solution you need in six sessions or less.

Why Does It Take Six Sessions?

Most hypnotherapists advertise a one session service, where “After two hours, you’ll never want to smoke again.” When looking at studies taken over recent years, these single sessions have an 86% success rate, which is wonderful. Unfortunately, six months after treatment, that success rate drops to 30%.

As a healthcare professional, I am committed to giving my clients the best possible chance for long-term change. Some people will respond really well to a single session, and not need any further treatment. Others may need a different approach because of personal circumstances or history.

All of my clients are unique individuals, so their treatments should reflect that reality.

How Does It Actually Work?

I take methodical approach to smoking/vaping addiction that addresses the cause of the compulsion, removes it, and replaces it with something preferable. Typically treatment takes the following steps:

  • Education on the neuroscience of how addiction functions in the brain.
  • Resolving any negative experiences that contributed to your decision to start, or continue, to smoke/vape
  • Treating any internal conflict, so you can stop smoking with either minimal or zero withdrawal symptoms/nerves.
  • Treating the subconscious compulsion to engage in the habit, after which you will no longer find yourself ‘accidentally’ smoking because you were ‘on autopilot’.
  • Identifying better habits that you may have wanted to develop all along, and making them feel so compelling that you can’t help but engage in them.
